NEW SPANISH PATENT ACT


The new Spanish Patent Act came into force, with effect from 1st April 2017, implementing some significant changes in the major issues of patent registration procedure.


AMENDMENTS IN SOUTH KOREA’S PATENT LAW


The amendments to the South Korean Patent Act took effect on 1st March, 2017. And the revised Patent Act introduces the significant changes.


SIPO’S NEW EXAMINATION GUIDELINES


China’s State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) has released the new guidelines to patent the software, business methods along with the chemical inventions. With the enactment of the new guidelines, it is anticipated that the SIPO will become more transparent and flexible in the procedures of examining, granting and invalidating the patents/applications than before.


TRADE MARKS RULES (2017) – CHANGES TO TRADE MARK REGISTRATION IN INDIA


The Trade Marks Rules, 2017 have been implemented with effect from 6th March 2017, bringing in sweeping changes to trade mark registration in India.


EGYPT : INCREASE IN EXAMINATION FEE


The Egyptian Patent Office has issued a new Executive Decree, No. 1 of 2017, which increased the examination fees for patents in Egypt. This went into effect retroactively as of 13th February 2017, for all pending and new patent applications. The fee has increased from 7,500 EGP to 17,530 EGP; the said fee may be subject to change and will be revised on a yearly basis.


INCREASE IN OFFICIAL FEES FOR TRADEMARK REGISTRATION IN INDIA


The Trade Mark (Amendment) Rules, 2015, India is likely to come into effect from Monday i.e. March 06, 2017. Among the series of changes that will be introduced under the new rules, the official fees for all filings, except for notice of opposition, have been increased by 100%.


SINGAPORE : CHANGES IN OFFICIAL FEE


A single patent attorney regulatory regime between Australia and New Zealand will come into force on 24th February 2017.

MCDONALD’S IN THE SOUP: SUED FOR COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT FOR USING LATE ARTIST DASH SNOW’S WORK


Jade Berreau (girlfriend of Late Dash Snow) has slapped the American fast food chain McDonald’s with a copyright infringement lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, a federal court in Los Angeles, alleging that McDonald’s has copied the artwork of late artist Dash Snow without authorization.



CHANGES IN PATENT RULES AND DESIGN FEES IN UNITED KINGDOM


The United Kingdom Intellectual Property Office introduces amendments in the Patent Rules and changes in the Industrial Design Registration and Renewal Fees, commencing from October 1, 2016.
