Kia Motors Files Trademark Applications for New Logo in South Korea

In the present highly competitive world, the automakers are continuously repositioning themselves to keep up with the fast-evolving auto sector. An increasing number of manufacturers are also updating their respective logos to something more stylish and attractive as they want to appear future-ready in all aspects. Kia Motors, the second-largest automobile manufacturer of South Korea, headquartered in Seoul, could soon join this bandwagon by switching to a brand new logo. The carmaker has filed Trademark Applications with the Korea Intellectual Property Rights Information Service (KIPRIS) for its brand new logo design, and its new corporate logo, which has stylized a 2D design that can be much easily replicated across various platforms. The trademark applications for the new Kia badge finished in red and black – date back to 26th November 2019. The brand new design perfectly shows how Kia Motors’ has evolved over the years.

The new design in the trademark applications shows the brand’s letters, ‘K’ and ‘A’ connected, wherein the sides of both the letters are linked to the letter ‘I,’ which seems to be leaning towards the right. In contrast, the present logo of Kia Motors has upright and unconnected letters, encased in an oval of the same color. The trademark filing has also revealed that the fields corresponding to the registration date and application publication date are empty, which implies that the South Korean carmaker is yet to receive approval from the local authorities for its brand new logo design. However, according to the reports, the same will be seen happening only in a matter of some time. The company’s new logo hasn’t come as a surprise as it has been using it on various concepts such as the Futuron concept and the Imagine concept that were both showcased this year at Geneva.

Kia Motors’ new logo also points out at its new corporate identity, which is exceedingly moving into mobility solutions going beyond ICE vehicles around the world. However, there is still one thing that needs to come in light, and that is how the brand will move towards the new logo as various reports have suggested that the logo could be reserved for only the electric and hybrid vehicles.

Volkswagen, one of the leading automakers in the world, headquartered in Wolfsburg, too unveiled its simpler and new corporate logo earlier this year, at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. On the other hand, Volkswagen’s group company, Skoda, was quick enough to come up with its revised logo in 2016.
