Singapore Becomes the First Country to have an App for Trademark Registration

It is indeed a well-known fact that entrepreneurs and business firms love Singapore for its efficient Intellectual Property (IP) regime. Now, the republic has made sincere efforts to give them new reasons for liking it considerably more than ever before. A new versatile mobile application touted as the world’s first mobile app for Trademark Registration will enable business organizations and entrepreneurs to file Trademark Applications on their smartphones with the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS).

Named as IPOS Go, the mobile application has simplified features and user interface (UI), allowing a faster, efficient, and reliable process of trademark application. IPOS said that by using this app, a trademark application could be filed in less than ten minutes, which is comparatively a small fraction of the usual 45-60 minutes. The authority further stated that the costs associated with the filing would also significantly reduce as the applicants shall be confident enough for filing their trademark applications directly with the IPOS.

The app for trademark registration is available on Google Play and Apple’s App Store. The app will also permit the trademark applicants to track the status of their registration process, stay updated with important notifications, and file applications for Trademark Renewal. Furthermore, IPOS Go has also incorporated the technology of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to prevent the applicants from filing applications for the trademarks that are way too similar or identical to the ones already existing. IPOS mentioned that as the present world is experiencing a surge in Trademark Filings, the new AI technology will aid business owners in managing their brands more effectively.

As per IPOS, the number of trademark applications filed in the country has increased by 30% in the last five years.

In the global ranking of the world’s most innovative IP offices held in March, IPOS had secured the second place. According to the World Trademark Review (WTR), IPOS has always been diligent towards providing education and support in business development.
